writing year recap letters

Many people dread reading the holiday recap letter full of pontification from the "perfect" family. Here are some tips to make sure yours doesn't sound over the top.

- Don't brag! A few mentions of travel, accomplishments or new purchases are okay, but keep them to a minimum.

- Talk about something that inspired you this year. Perhaps a great book, movie or CD.

- Describe something truly funny that happened to your family (the more self-deprecating the better).

- Speak to the things that made you grateful this year.

- Praise someone outside your family that made a big difference in your life.

- Share an idea that would benefit your recipients, like a wonderful genealogy website or an amazing recipe.

- Lastly, make sure to proof your letter carefully!
